OKX cryptocurrency exchange recently announced a partnership with Jambo, a Web3-enabled smartphone brand. Through this partnership, the two brands aim to drive the Web3-based digital economy in emerging smartphone-friendly markets. Web3 and smartphones both form individually recognized markets in their own right, but their integration with each other is a concept that has yet to be explored in depth. Jambo and OKX are also expecting this smartphone to compete with the Solana Saga smartphone.

As part of the deal, OKX will integrate its cryptocurrency exchange and wallet app with JamboPhone, which already supports Web3 functionality. According to the website, the phone is priced at $99 (roughly Rs. 8,230).

James Zhang, co-founder of Jambo, said of the development: “By embedding OKX directly into the Jambo ecosystem, we are making it easier for users in emerging markets to safely and efficiently participate in the digital economy.”

Jambo Technology, known as an Africa-based technology company, launched the JamboPhone in March 2024 after securing $30 million (about Rs. 249 crore) Series A funding in 2022. This phone has built-in features that allow users to play. , acquire and store digital assets within the ecosystem. Along with Web3 functionality, the smartphone comes with a 6.5-inch LCD display, octa-core T606 chipset, dual rear camera setup and runs Android 13.

The smartphone was launched in collaboration with blockchain company Aptos Foundation. According to JamboPhone’s official website, it is currently available in over 120 countries and OKX is currently looking to expand its business and operations.

As for OKX, a venture firm called OKX Ventures is investing an undisclosed amount in Jambo and has officially announced the same for the X handle, which has over 123,000 followers.

The partnership also aims to compete with the Saga, a Solana-based smartphone unveiled in June 2022. Saga phones have a built-in Seed Vault that allows you to securely store all private keys associated with your device, along with other Web3 features. It was developed by OSOM, a relatively new technology company.

The Saga smartphone comes with a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution (1080×2400 pixels) and 120Hz refresh rate, 50-megapixel primary rear camera, rear fingerprint sensor, ceramic back panel, and titanium accents. It also runs Android 13 out of the box.
