(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Oh Bo-ram = With Marvel Studios’ new work ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ expected to be released this summer, attention is being paid to whether it can become a relief pitcher for Marvel, which is in crisis.

Distributor Walt Disney Company Korea announced on the 13th that ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ will be released in July.

This is the third film featuring the Marvel Comics hero Deadpool as the main character, and is a sequel that comes out about six years after the second film. It is characterized by the appearance of Wolverine from the ‘X-Men’ series and ‘Logan’.

The specific story has not been revealed, but the story is that the two heroes Deadpool (played by Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) will change the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Director Sean Levy, who presented the ‘Night at the Museum’ series, took the lead.

‘Deadpool’ is a popular series that earned $780 million (approximately KRW 1.0364 trillion) worldwide for the first and second installments each.

In Korea, the first film was a box office success, attracting 3.32 million viewers, and the second film mobilizing 3.78 million viewers.

The fact that he is the most comical hero in the Marvel universe and that the directing that breaks the taboos and clichés of superhero movies reaches the audience in a new way are considered factors of success.

Attention is being paid to whether Marvel, which has had below-expected results at home and abroad in recent years, will be able to shake off the crisis with ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’.

Marvel has been going downhill since the last episode of ‘Avengers’, ‘Endgame’ (2019). ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ · ‘Eternals’ (2021), ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ · ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ (2022), ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania’ (2023), etc. These series failed at the box office.

In particular, ‘The Marvels’, released last year, recorded a profit of $200 million (265 billion won), which was less than the production cost, recording the lowest performance among all Marvel films. Even in Korea, it only attracted about 690,000 viewers, heightening the theory that Marvel was in crisis.
