The Apple Vision Pro has been available in the US for nearly two weeks now, and many users have shared their thoughts on the company’s first mixed reality headset. While some people were impressed, others said they were concerned about the technology. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who is competing with his own mixed reality headset Meta Quest 3, has posted a video review after testing the Vision Pro. He expressed his opinion, saying, “Quest is a better product.”

The review was posted on MetaCEO’s Instagram profile. In the three-minute video, he explains the features he liked about Apple Vision Pro and highlights the benefits of Meta Quest 3. He began his review by saying, “Previously, I expected Quest to be a better value for most people because it was so good and seven times cheaper.” He goes on to say that after experiencing the headset, he now believes the Quest 3 is a better product overall.

These comments aren’t surprising, considering Zuckerberg has had reservations about Apple Vision Pro since it was first revealed at the iPhone maker’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2023. At the time, he said Meta’s vision for the metaverse was fundamentally social, and he didn’t like how all of Apple’s demos showed a person “sitting alone on a couch.”

In his review of the mixed reality headset, Zuckerberg praised the Vision Pro’s high-resolution display and noted that its eye tracking is “really good.” However, he was quick to emphasize that he was surprised by the many compromises Apple made between the quality, comfort, and ergonomics of the headset, as well as other aspects to achieve this.

Zuckerberg did not miss the opportunity to compare the Apple headset and Metaquest 3, and explained that the mixed reality headset is 120g lighter than its predecessor for more comfort. He also pointed out that, unlike the Vision Pro, the Quest 3 has no wires to get in the way when the user moves around. He also said that visibility and screen brightness are better on Meta’s wearable.

“If you look around, there are a lot of people who think that because the Vision Pro is Apple and costs $3000 more, the quality must be better. “But honestly, I was quite surprised that the Quest was a much better price difference for most of the things people use these headsets for,” he added.

The Meta CEO also compared the content libraries of the two headsets and highlighted that the Quest’s immersive content library is larger. While this is true, Apple is collaborating with studios like Disney and game publishers in addition to its Apple TV+ streaming service to create its own content library.

“The reality is that every generation of computing has had an open model and a closed model. In mobile, Apple’s closed model wins, but not always. Back in the PC era, Microsoft’s open model was the winner. In the next generation, Meta will be an open model, and I want to make sure that the open model wins again,” Zuckerberg concluded.
