(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Jandi Kim = Nurses across the country declared that they actively support the government’s medical reform, including expanding the number of admissions to medical schools.

On the morning of the 14th, the Korean Nurses Association (KNU) held an emergency press conference in front of the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul to urge active support for medical reform and the implementation of the five demands for normalization of medical care and made this announcement.

The association said, “People are unable to receive proper treatment due to a lack of doctors, putting their lives at risk. There was even an incident where a nurse at the largest hospital in Korea collapsed and was unable to receive surgery due to lack of doctors,” adding, “Tragedies like this cannot happen anymore.” “It can’t be done,” he insisted.

This refers to a case in 2022 where a nurse at Asan Medical Center in Seoul collapsed from a cerebral hemorrhage while on duty and was taken to the emergency room. However, there was no neurosurgeon who could perform the surgery at the time, so she was transferred to Seoul National University Hospital and eventually died.

The Korean Medical Association asked medical groups that are preparing for collective action, such as a general strike, to protest against the government’s increase in medical schools not to abandon their responsibilities and duties as medical professionals.

They said, “The first responsibility of medical professionals is ‘protecting the health and life of patients,’ and medical organizations must protect the duties of medical professionals. Can you imagine a firefighter leaving a fire scene or a police officer leaving a crime scene for their own benefit? “he asked.

He emphasized, “Medical workers who protect the lives of the people must not leave the field where they protect the people at any moment.”

We urged the government to stand on the side of the people and expedite the expansion of medical schools.

The association stated, “Attempts such as making closed-door compromises that backslide on medical reform with commercial or interest groups should never be attempted,” and added, “The people’s right to life and health are never subject to compromise.”

In order to normalize the medical field, the association ▲ Prepared measures to eradicate illegal medical practices such as surrogate surgery ▲ Implemented a national responsibility system for nursing care ▲ Resolved local medical imbalance issues ▲ Expanded home nursing to solve problems of the elderly and chronic diseases ▲ Enacted laws to guarantee nursing services He urged the government to complete five major items, including:
