(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Kim Hyun-soo = Donga ST[170900]announced on the 15th that its operating profit last year was 35.8 billion won, up 17.2% from the year before.

Net profit increased 130.3% over the same period to 20.8 billion won, but sales decreased 4.8% to 605.2 billion won.

Operating profit and sales in the fourth quarter of last year were KRW 7.2 billion and KRW 165.7 billion, respectively, up 74.8% and 1.1% from the same quarter the year before.

Dong-A ST explained that overseas business sales last year decreased by 10.7% compared to the year before last due to a decline in overseas sales of Can Bacchus due to the economic downturn in Cambodia, its main market, and that sales decreased due to the continued impact of the transfer of the diagnostics division to affiliate Dong-A Chammed.

However, sales of prescription drugs last year grew by 11.3% compared to the year before, and sales of overseas anemia and tuberculosis treatments also increased by 55.4% and 23.5%, respectively.

In addition, last year’s research and development (R&D) costs increased compared to the year before, but sales of the growth hormone drug ‘Grotropin’ surged 54.3% compared to the year before last, improving the cost-to-sales ratio of prescription drugs, and operating profit increased due to efficient sales and administrative expenses.

Dong-A ST announced that it is expanding the development of new drugs for the next generation modality (therapeutic approach) by acquiring Aptis, an antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) company.

Aptis is developing ADC candidate substance ‘AT-211’ targeting stomach cancer and pancreatic cancer using ‘Appclick’, a platform that can control the half-life of ADC in the body, and Dong-A ST plans to conduct phase 1 clinical trials in the US and Korea this year. We plan to apply for (IND).
