The future of the medical field

The future of the medical field

(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Kwon Ji-hyeon = When doctors, including residents, announced group action in opposition to the government’s increase in medical schools, a patient group appealed to stop the confrontation, saying, “This is a situation where backs are bursting in a whale fight.”

On the 15th, six serious disease-related organizations, including the Korea Multiple Myeloma Patients Association and the Korea Lou Gehrig Association, issued a statement on the medical gap that is a concern due to doctors’ group action, saying, “The government and doctors are confronting each other with the lives of seriously ill patients as collateral. “Groups should immediately stop this situation and seek dialogue and solutions,” he urged.

They criticized, “The government and medical groups are shifting responsibility for patient damage to the other, and no one is making any efforts to seek sincere understanding from patients or minimize damage.”

At the same time, he complained, “Patients with severe diseases and their families are anxious, spending each day in extreme anxiety amidst the extreme confrontation between the two sides, with war clouds hovering over the medical field.”

The organizations mentioned that residents took collective action in 2020 when medical school expansion was promoted, and said, “Although it has been four years since the establishment of an organization to resolve the pending issue through agreement at the time, only patients are harmed without any agreement or reasonable alternative to medical school expansion.” “Both the government and medical groups should take joint responsibility for creating this extreme situation,” he argued.

He continued, “If an unpleasant situation occurs for seriously ill patients in the future, we will not be able to overlook the irresponsible attitude of not only medical groups but also health authorities who did not show any effort or will to negotiate.”
