Gangwon Provincial Medical Association, resolution meeting against increase in personnel

(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Kim Young-shin = Prime Minister Han Deok-soo said on the 15th that doctors’ groups held simultaneous rallies across the country in opposition to the push to increase the number of students at medical schools, saying, “It is a unjustified action that goes against the earnest wishes of the people, and patients are held hostage. He pointed out, “You can’t get the support of the people if you catch them.”

Prime Minister Han posted a ‘Message to Medical Professionals’ on Facebook this afternoon, saying, “The government is not asking medical professionals to make unreasonable sacrifices, and increasing the number of medical schools is a decision for the future of all citizens.”

Prime Minister Han enumerated the demand for medical care due to the aging population and the shortage of manpower in emergency medical centers, pediatric departments, and obstetrics and gynecology departments, and said, “The suffering suffered by the people due to the lack of medical manpower has already exceeded the level of inconvenience,” adding, “Increasing the number of medical schools is a way to reduce this suffering.” “This is the first step toward medical reform under the Yoon Seok-yeol government,” he emphasized.

Prime Minister Han said that the reform includes things that the medical community has been demanding, such as easing the burden of medical accidents and increasing essential medical fees, and said, “The reason for the government’s existence is to protect the people, and the reason for the existence of medical professionals is to protect patients.”

At the same time, he said, “Doctors are the most respected profession and are called ‘teachers’ by the people,” and added, “Emptying the hospital while leaving sick people is an act of denying the reason for existence, so please stay by the patients and the people.”

In particular, Prime Minister Han emphasized to young residents and medical students, “Of course, we will also invest in improving the quality of medical school education,” and added, “The government will make great progress for all citizens through a reform package, starting with increasing the number of medical schools.”

Prime Minister Han added, “The government is open to dialogue. We will discuss as much as we can, anytime, anywhere. We will trust and wait for the medical community’s reasonable judgment, and we will do our best to respond to group action.”
