Microsoft is previewing new features in Windows 11, with a particular focus on Notepad. Last year, the company began adding artificial intelligence (AI) features to its Windows operating system. Copilot in Windows 11 exists as both a chatbot and a special feature inside apps like Paint, Photos, Clipchamp, and more. Notepad is now being added to the list of Windows apps to get new AI features. The capture tool has also been slightly improved.

Dave Grochocki, senior product manager for Windows Inbox apps at Microsoft, announced the new Windows 11 features on the Windows Insider blog. The following new features have been added to the lightweight Notepad app (version 11.2401.25.0): Explain with Copilot, which helps users understand the contents of the file. Users can access this feature by highlighting a portion of text in the app and right-clicking to open the options menu. When selected, it summarizes and describes the highlighted log file, code segment, or selected content. Users can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + E to quickly boot Copilot.

“This feature is available on devices with Copilot on Windows, but there is a known issue where some users may not see this new feature right away in Notepad,” Grochocki said, encouraging users to share their feedback by using the WIN+F keyboard shortcut. I asked you to do it.

Capturing tools already have AI capabilities. Users can use it to automatically redact sensitive text in screenshot images. However, now we have added the ability to add shapes to your screenshots. After obtaining the capture, the user can select the New Shape button in the toolbar and select the desired shape in the image. Users can add rectangles, ovals, lines, and arrows to highlight parts of text or images and annotate them more effectively. You can resize the shape, move it, or change its color. These features are available to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev channels for Windows 11.

The tech giant also recently confirmed that Windows 11 24H2 will be the next major feature update to be released this year. The new version is expected to include advanced Copilot. Microsoft may also offer super-resolution technology, similar to its own Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), in the upcoming Windows 11 24H2 update for improved gaming performance. This technology uses AI to run supported games smoothly at improved frame rates.
