On the 15th, the government held a government-wide food poisoning countermeasures meeting at the Sejong Government Complex hosted by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, with government ministries such as the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare in attendance, as well as local governments such as the Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation, and announced this.

The most heavily promoted area is the management of norovirus and salmonella, which ranked first and second as the causative agents of food poisoning last year.

First, to prevent food poisoning caused by norovirus, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries conducts tests for norovirus contamination in shellfish production areas, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs conducts year-round monitoring of vegetables grown using groundwater or river water.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety decided to double the collection and inspection of raw oysters from 240 last year to 480 this year, and to conduct preliminary inspections for virus contamination in children’s activity spaces, such as cooking facilities at daycare centers.

Food poisoning caused by salmonella is planned to be prevented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs by conducting 4,000 egg tests annually at egg production farms, and by expanding the number of egg tests at the distribution stage to 500 cases by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.

In addition, to manage the safety of school meals at daycare centers and other facilities, the government provides hygiene education for cooks and produces and distributes various content on food poisoning prevention rules, such as washing hands and observing storage temperatures.

In addition, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety plans to establish a hotline between relevant ministries and local governments to prevent large-scale spread and quickly identify the cause when food poisoning occurs in the future, while conducting joint mock training four times a year.
