(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Go Yoo-seon = As medical students took collective action, such as taking a leave of absence, in protest against the government’s policy to increase the number of students admitted to medical schools, the Ministry of Education formed a situation response team and began responding.

On the 16th, the Ministry of Education established a ‘National University Hospital and Medical School Situation Response Team’ (within the Ministry of Education) to quickly identify and respond to situations related to collective action by medical school students, and started operating an emergency contact system with 40 medical schools nationwide from today. “We decided to regularly check student trends and measures at each university,” he said.

The day before, immediately after fourth-year students at Hallym University College of Medicine announced their policy of taking a leave of absence through social media (SNS), the Ministry of Education sent an official letter to medical schools across the country requesting that they submit data on the status of their students’ leave of absence by the 29th.

However, on the evening of the same day, representative students of the medical school held an emergency meeting and decided to submit an alliance leave of absence report on the 20th. As the situation became urgent, it is interpreted that the situation response team began an inspection.

The Ministry of Education also plans to hold an emergency meeting with medical school academic deans at 3 p.m. on the 16th, chaired by Vice Minister Oh Seok-hwan, to exchange opinions on academic management and the direction of responding to collective action among medical students.

At the meeting, Vice Minister Oh plans to ask each university to strictly follow student guidance and academic management by complying with related laws and school regulations.
