(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Oh Jin-song = The health and medical union criticized the submission of collective resignations by residents on the 16th, defining it as a group act aimed at defeating the government’s policy of expanding the number of medical school admissions.

The health and medical union issued a statement on this day, saying, “It is clear to anyone that residents are submitting resignation letters and stopping work en masse at a set date, which is a group refusal to receive medical treatment to thwart the increase in medical schools,” and added, “It is an act that throws away the lives of the people.” “He pointed out.

According to the Korean Medical Residents Association (Daejeon Association), a residents’ group, all residents at the ‘Big 5’ hospitals submitted their resignations on the 19th and agreed to stop working after 6 a.m. the next day.

It has been reported that eight residents at St. Mary’s Hospital affiliated with the Catholic Medical Center plan to submit their resignations on this day.

The health and medical union said, “Residents engaged in work directly related to people’s lives, such as emergency rooms, operating rooms, intensive care units, delivery rooms, neonatal units, and dialysis units, abandoning patients and leaving the medical field is an act that is driving citizens to death and can never be tolerated.” He said, “It is an anti-medical act that does not exist,” and asked, “How can we deal with the public’s disappointment and distrust in doctors?”

He continued, “Increasing the number of medical schools is a necessary measure to improve the working conditions of residents who are suffering from heavy work,” and added, “Residents who are driven to burnout due to continuous work of more than 36 hours and 80 hours a week need to increase the number of medical schools to improve the working environment of doctors.” “To oppose it is self-contradiction and self-denial,” he pointed out.

At the same time, he said, “The group refusal of medical treatment by medical residents is not just a fight against the government, it is a fight against the people,” and urged, “We must immediately stop fighting against the people.”

The health and medical union plans to directly identify and disclose the submission of resignation letters by residents at hospitals across the country and the damage suffered by patients due to group refusal of treatment.
