(Gwangju = Larose.VIP) Reporter Park Cheol-hong = Residents at Chonnam National University Hospital and Chosun Hospital, which are university hospitals in the Gwangju area, are also discussing in detail the submission of collective resignations in protest against the government’s increase in medical schools.

Some residents at Chosun University Hospital have already begun submitting individual resignation letters to the hospital, and students at Chonnam National University School of Medicine are also showing signs of participating in the alliance leave of absence.

According to Chosun University Hospital on the 16th, seven residents belonging to the hospital submitted their resignation letters to the hospital the previous day.

There are a total of 142 residents working at Chosun University Hospital, and it is reported that all of the residents who submitted their resignations submitted their resignations individually.

The hospital personally interviewed residents who submitted resignation letters to hear their reasons for resignation, and most of them stated that the reasons for submitting resignation letters were ‘personal reasons.’

It is said that the rest of the hospital’s residents have also begun discussions on whether to join in submitting their resignations.

The Chonnam National University Hospital Resident Council is also considering whether to resign en masse.

The 320 residents at this hospital have begun internal discussions, including gathering opinions from each department, on how to submit their resignations as a group on the 19th, in line with the submission of collective resignations by residents at hospitals in the metropolitan area.

It is said that they are also considering a hard-line response plan to enforce ‘unauthorized absences’ from work the day after submitting their resignation.

An official from the Chonnam National University Hospital Residents’ Council explained, “We are discussing it internally, but we have not met yet to meet and the plan has not been finalized. There are some opposing opinions, so whether or not there will be collective resignation will need to be discussed further to find out.”

Even if residents submit their resignations, there is a possibility that each teaching hospital will not accept the residents’ resignation letters, as the government has currently issued an order banning the acceptance of collective resignations.

In addition, according to related laws, residents must complete a handover for one month before they can leave the hospital even after submitting a letter of withdrawal from training.

Students at medical schools across the country are also pushing for an alliance leave of absence in protest against the government’s policy to increase the number of medical school students, and Chonnam National University medical students also decided to join the alliance leave of absence with a 94.7% approval rate.

Chosun University medical students are also conducting internal discussions.

In response to this, the government declared a strong response this morning by mobilizing a work commencement order to the major’s resignation.

In addition, regarding group actions such as alliance leave of absence, an official letter was sent to 40 medical schools across the country, requesting strict academic management.
