(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Lee Chung-won = The bereaved family said that Jwa Seung-won, former director of the Jeju International Education and Information Center, who created the children’s song ‘Buds’, which won the grand prize at the 1st MBC Creative Children’s Song Festival in 1983, passed away due to old age at 3:54 a.m. on the 18th. This was reported. He died at the age of 78.

The deceased, who was born in 1946 in Sinchang-ri, Hangyeong-myeon, Bukjeju-gun (currently Sinchang-ri, Hangyeong-myeon, Jeju-si), began composing music as a hobby in his second year at Jeju National University of Education. In 1983, while working as a teacher at Seongsan Elementary School in South Jeju and in charge of conducting the KBS Jeju Children’s Choir, he selected Soo-ji Lee (11 years old at the time, 5 years at Jeju Buk Elementary School), a choir member, to participate in the MBC Creative Children’s Song Contest and won the grand prize, the highest award. ‘They are Sprouts’ was once included in elementary school textbooks, and a song monument was erected in Singemul Park, Hangyeong-myeon, Jeju-si, the deceased’s hometown. After serving as the principal of Bonggae Elementary School, he served as the first director of the Jeju International Education and Information Center in 2006, retiring two years later.

The surviving family consists of one son and two daughters, including Jwa Bo-ram, Jwa Eutteum, and Jwa Pureum. The funeral is held in room 3 of the Jeju Central Hospital funeral hall, Ilpo on the 19th, the funeral takes place at 8:30 a.m. on the 20th, and the burial site is Seonyeong, Haean-dong, Jeju-si. ☎ 064-786-7440
