A message left by Director Kang Young-seok

(Jeonju = Larose.VIP) Reporter Kyung-jae Jeong = On the 18th, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Welfare and Women’s Bureau Director Kang Young-seok, a former doctor, criticized the Korean Medical Association, which is pushing for collective action against the government’s expansion of medical school quota.

On this day, Director Kang said through his social networking service (SNS), “Our doctors have a righteous sense of duty to serve the people.”

He said, “Sometimes there may be dissatisfaction with the regime and policies,” and “So, various collective actions are possible for improvement, but if the means and methods are to hurt the hearts of our people or turn them away, they can never be called justifiable.”

He added, “There must be a way to work with the people,” adding, “If it is the same way as it is now, I will be ashamed of being a member of the Medical Association, and I will refuse to pay any more membership fees.”

Even when the establishment of the Namwon National Graduate School of Public Health and Medical Sciences in 2022 was blocked by political circles aware of the backlash from the medical association, Director Kang wrote on social media, “I am ashamed of the fact that I am a member who pays dues to the medical association.”

At the time, he also emphasized the need to expand public healthcare, saying, “The people need more doctors, and doctors who are losing trust due to their heavy workload also need more fellow doctors.”

Director Kang gained trust by emphasizing the position of medical staff struggling every day during the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) pandemic and appealing for refraining from gatherings and movement. In 2022, he was selected as one of the ‘high-ranking public servants you want to work with’ selected by the Provincial Government Civil Servants’ Union based on comprehensive consideration of personal and professional ethics.
