Medical residents’ group decides to ‘individual response’… Prepare measures to minimize medical gaps at the hospital

Medical students at Chonnam National University and Chosun University are also expected to join the alliance’s leave of absence.

(Gwangju = Larose.VIP) Reporter Park Cheol-hong = A significant number of residents at Chonnam National University Hospital and Chosun University Hospital, tertiary hospitals in Gwangju and Jeonnam, submitted their resignations in the form of ‘individual resignation’ in opposition to the increase in the number of medical school students, and are expected to be absent without permission, leaving a gap in medical treatment. I am concerned about this.

The hospital is establishing its own emergency treatment plan to prepare for unauthorized absences following the resignation of residents.

The Chonnam National University Hospital Resident Council announced on the 18th that, after collecting opinions from 320 members, it decided to leave the decision to resign to ‘individual choice.’

Although it is ostensibly an individual resignation due to the government’s strong stance on residents’ collective resignation and concerns that some intern residents may be disadvantaged, it is expected that a significant number of residents will submit their resignations in line with the resignation process at other hospitals.

It is expected that residents will not work as ‘unauthorized absences’ the day after submitting their resignation.

An official from the Chonnam National University Hospital Resident Council said, “We have decided to leave it to the individual residents’ individual judgment whether or not to submit a resignation letter, the date and time of submission, and whether or not they will continue to work after resignation.”

It is known that residents at Chosun University Hospital, where the Executive Committee of the Resident Council is absent, held their own meeting last Friday and decided on a response plan of ‘individual and collective resignation’.

At Chosun University Hospital, seven residents individually submitted letters of resignation last week, and other residents gathered to share their opinions on whether to resign.

An insider said that some residents at Chosun University Hospital did not mention whether they would submit their resignations for fear of being seen as a group resignation, but directly or indirectly notified the hospital that they would “stop working from the 20th.”

As it was predicted that a significant number of residents at the region’s representative tertiary hospitals would vacate the hospital to oppose the increase in the number of medical school students, the hospital was put on alert to prepare countermeasures.

If the absence of residents becomes a reality, Chosun University Hospital responded by deploying 174 specialists and 80 assistant nurses (PAs) to prevent gaps in treatment, and also planned to expand non-face-to-face treatment if treatment disruptions spread.

Chonnam National University Hospital also said, “We will do our best to ensure that there are no disruptions in patient care by mobilizing all of the hospital’s capabilities.”

Along with the major’s move to resign, medical students at Chonnam National University and Chosun University are also expected to join the alliance leave of absence.

Chonnam National University medical students decided to participate in the alliance leave of absence with a 94.7% approval rate, and Chosun University medical students are conducting a survey over the weekend asking whether they will participate in the alliance leave of absence.
