(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Han Seong-gan = Research results have shown that myocardial infarction can be predicted 6 months in advance through a blood test.

Health Day News reported that the research team of Professor Johan Sundström, a cardiologist at Uppsala University Medical School in Sweden, analyzed research data conducted on a total of 169,053 people without a history of cardiovascular disease in six European countries and found this fact. (HealthDay News) reported on the 17th.

The research team compared blood test data from 420 people who had their first myocardial infarction within 6 months ago and 1,598 healthy people from the same group.

The research team analyzed 817 proteins and 1,025 metabolites in the blood. As a result, it was revealed that a total of 91 molecules, including 48 proteins and 43 metabolites, were related to the occurrence of the first myocardial infarction.

Among these, cerebral natriuretic peptide (BNP), a protein secreted by the heart, showed the most consistent association with impending myocardial infarction.

It was found that combining these 91 molecules with age, gender, and systolic blood pressure could predict the imminence of the first myocardial infarction.

Based on this, the research team developed a simple online tool (miscore.org) that indicates the risk of myocardial infarction within 6 months.

The research team expected that if people learn that the risk of myocardial infarction is imminent through this online tool, they will be motivated to prevent it and take preventive measures such as taking medication and quitting smoking.

Myocardial infarction is one of the biggest causes of death in the world, but it is not easy to predict. The research team pointed out that the reason is that the most widely known risk factors for myocardial infarction appear steadily long before myocardial infarction occurs.

The results of this study were published in the latest issue of the British medical journal ‘Nature Cardiovascular Research’.
