According to a new report, the Apple Vision Pro may soon face stiff competition from Huawei’s rumored mixed reality headset. Apple launched the $3,499 (approximately Rs. 2.9 lakh) headset in the market earlier this month, powered by dual M2 and R1 chipsets and featuring 12 different cameras. But now the Chinese brand’s wearable device called Huawei Vision may surpass its Cupertino-based rival on several parameters. In particular, it is known that the weight is about half that of the Vision Pro.

Details about Huawei’s hidden headset come from a Weibo post written by Li Nan (via Huawei Central), a former marketing director at Chinese consumer technology brand Meizu. In the post, he not only revealed the product’s name, Huawei Vision, a name the company reportedly trademarked in 2019, but also highlighted that it could offer better value than the Apple Vision Pro.

According to the post, the mixed reality headset weighs 350 grams, which is half the weight of the Apple Vision Pro at 600 grams. However, just because the weight is lighter does not mean the product is inferior. Li Nan also highlighted that the Chinese brand may use the same 4K Sony micro OLED display that Apple used in its headset. It is worth mentioning that most users cited the display experience of Apple wearables as a major highlight. There are also rumors that the Huawei Vision may be priced at $1,750 (roughly Rs. 1.45 lakh), which is again half the price of the Apple headset.

Apart from that, the post also mentioned that Huawei Vision may be powered by the company’s self-developed processor and may offer a lag-free experience. It will be interesting to see how the company will find the right silicon innovations to support these new technologies and compete with Apple’s processors, which are said to process data from the Vision Pro’s many sensors with a 12ms response time and 256GBps bandwidth.

One downside highlighted in the post is the lack of EyeSight-like features in Apple Vision Pro. This feature projects a replica of the user’s eyes onto the outside of the glasses, making it easier for non-users to interact with them. However, some people have reported that they do not like this feature because it looks unnatural.

No release date has been mentioned yet, but rumors have swirled that Huawei’s mixed reality headset could launch later this year.
