(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Lee Sang-seo = The National Fire Agency announced the ‘119 Rescue Activity Measures’ on the 19th to prevent disruption in the transport of emergency patients in preparation for collective action by the medical community opposing the government’s policy of increasing the number of medical school students.

First, the National Fire Agency is reinforcing the call reception desk and counseling staff in preparation for the influx of 119 calls due to hospital information, etc.

At the site, we plan to mainly transfer ‘patients whose lives are in danger’ and select transfer hospitals from the 119 Emergency Management Center to minimize delays in transporting emergency patients.

Accordingly, it was decided to transfer severe and emergency patients to regional emergency medical centers or large hospitals, and mild and non-emergency patients to local emergency medical institutions or nearby hospitals and clinics.

In order to minimize inconvenience to the public, city and provincial fire headquarters across the country plan to provide information in various ways, such as identifying medical institutions that can provide treatment within their jurisdictions and posting them on each fire headquarters website.

In addition, the National Fire Agency requested that non-emergency patients refrain from calling 119.

On this day, the National Fire Agency held an emergency video conference and established step-by-step measures, such as ‘preparation-initial-long-term’, in case of group action.

In the preparation stage, we work closely with related organizations to identify medical institutions that participated in collective action, draw up a plan to reinforce manpower and equipment, and inspect the hotline communication network.

In the initial stage, counseling personnel and equipment will be strengthened, and if there is a delay in transporting emergency patients, the emergency situation center will directly select a hospital.

In the long-term stage, severe emergency patients are guided and transferred to alternative medical facilities, while ambulances and helicopters are provided for long-distance transport.

Fire Commissioner Nam Hwa-young said, “We will do our best to ensure that the lives and safety of the people are not threatened due to medical gaps.”
