(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Kim Byeong-gyu and Hwang Jae-ha = Amid concerns of a ‘medical crisis’ due to the mass resignation of residents over the government’s push to increase the number of medical schools, the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the medical community are holding an open debate on broadcast for the first time.

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare and broadcasting companies on the 19th, the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the medical community are discussing with various broadcasting stations a plan to hold a discussion session on topics such as increasing the number of medical schools and collective action of residents.

The first debate is MBC’s ‘100 Minute Debate’ held at 11:30 pm on the 20th, and will feature two people in favor of increasing the number of medical schools and two people opposed to it.

The topic is ‘Conflict in medical school enrollment…’ The medical team is ‘Ona’, and the recording is being conducted in advance ahead of tomorrow’s broadcast.

Those in favor of increasing the number of medical schools are Yoo Jeong-min, head of the strategic team of the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Medical Issues Promotion Group, and Kim Yoon, a professor at Seoul National University’s School of Medicine (medical management).

Those on the opposing side are Lee Dong-wook, president of the Gyeonggi Province Medical Association, and Professor Jeong Jae-hoon of Gachon University Gil Hospital (Department of Preventive Medicine).

The Ministry of Health and Welfare and the medical community have announced that they would hold an open discussion, but the discussion did not actually take place.

It is reported that the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korean Medical Association are discussing ways to appear in a live TV debate organized by KBS in the near future.

An official from the Ministry of Health and Welfare explained, “In addition to the two broadcasting companies, we are discussing creating an opportunity to openly discuss the medical community and the issue of increasing the number of medical schools through various broadcasting channels.” .

Vice Minister of Health and Welfare Park Min-soo said at a briefing that day, “I told the Korean Medical Association that TV debates are good in any way and at any time. I hope we can have an open conversation.”

The Emergency Response Committee of the Korean Medical Association (KMA) also asked the government to “show those responsible for policies to reveal whose claims are right and wrong through intense debate in a grand debate where all citizens can watch.” He urged.
