Hospital residents announce suspension of work from the 20th

(Jeonju = Larose.VIP) Reporter Na Bo-bae = In protest against the government’s expansion of the medical school quota, about 86% of residents at Chonbuk National University Hospital submitted a letter of resignation and participated in a work stoppage on the 20th, and medical disruption is expected to be inevitable.

According to Chonbuk National University Hospital on this day, 162 out of 189 residents (provisional count) submitted letters of resignation.

It is known that many of them did not come to work after 9 a.m., the hospital’s starting time, due to absenteeism.

The hospital is also checking whether residents have stopped working accurately.

However, the hospital explained that the number of residents who actually submitted valid resignation letters is not clear because some of the resignation letters did not have the signature of the medical department head.

As the situation of medical residents leaving hospitals has become a reality, the Ministry of Health and Welfare will visit Chonbuk National University Hospital around 10 am on this day to conduct an on-site inspection.

At Jesus Hospital, 27 out of 77 residents submitted their resignations the day before, and 17 people stopped working from this morning.

Wonkwang University Hospital’s position is that it is difficult to disclose the current medical status to the media. At Wonkwang University Hospital, 126 residents submitted their resignations on the 15th, but they rejected them.

An official at Chonbuk National University Hospital said, “It is unlikely that there will be any immediate disruption in medical care due to residents leaving work, but if the situation prolongs, a reduction in surgery and medical treatment is inevitable. We have prepared a specialist-centered emergency treatment system to prepare for medical gaps.” .
