Visiting Korea to promote ‘Dune 2’… Director Denis Villeneuve “A country of true cinephiles”

Heart for Korean fans

(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Oh Bo-ram = “How do you pronounce it? Dunechinja!”

Top Hollywood star Timothée Chalamet said this while imitating the words of an interpreter at a press conference in Korea held at the Conrad Seoul Hotel in Yeongdeungpo-gu on the 21st. ‘Dune Chinja’ is a new word in Korea that means a person who is crazy about the movie ‘Dune’.

Chalamet visited Korea with director Denis Villeneuve and actors Zendaya, Austin Butler, and Stellan Skarsgård to promote the movie ‘Dune: Part 2’, which will be released on the 28th. It has been about five years since he was invited to the Busan International Film Festival in 2019 for ‘The King: Henry V’ that he visited Korea.

Chalamet expressed his gratitude to his fans, saying, “Korean fans welcome me warmer than anywhere else in the world.”

Butler, who entered the country with Chalamet, said, “I strongly agree with what he said,” and added, “Korean movies are my favorite movies in the world, so I’ve always wanted to come.”

The two people, who arrived in the country on the 19th, two days before the official event, did not spare fan service by signing autographs and taking pictures with fans. In particular, Chalamet, who toured downtown Seoul the day before, had photos taken with her fans posted one after another on social networking services (SNS).

Zendaya also laughed, saying, “As soon as I arrived at the airport, many fans gave me letters, pictures, and Korean snacks. Even my mom doesn’t welcome me like that.” This is Zendaya’s first visit to Korea.

“I love Korean food so much, but I’m sad that I’m only staying for three days,” Skarsgård joked, adding, “I’ll eat as much as I can during that time.”

Director Villeneuve, who also held a press conference in Korea last December, said, “Every time I come here, I feel how much Koreans love movies. Korea is a country of true cinephiles.”

‘Dune 2’ is a work that deals with the story behind ‘Dune’, which was released in 2021. It tells the story of Paul (played by Chalamet), who awakens after realizing his own abilities and destiny and embarks on a journey for revenge.

The highlight of the film is seeing the transformation of Paul, a boy, into a warrior and leader, and further into a messiah or fanatic.

Timote said, “It seems that the original writer, Frank Herbert, thought that Paul should be avoided being seen as a hero.” He added, “Paul wants to be recognized (by others) and continue his relationship with (lover) Chani, but at the same time, he is a person with a dark and violent side. “He introduced.

Director Villeneuve explained, “I tried to reflect the original as faithfully as possible. I thought Herbert’s intention was to send a warning message to charismatic leaders.”

Fade Lotta (played by Austin Butler), who newly appears in ‘Dune 2’, seems to be the opposite of Paul, but in some ways, he is a character who has some similarities on the inside.

As a bloodless and tearless sociopath who kills people for fun, Butler’s unconventional transformation stands out.

Butler demonstrates sword fighting and hand-to-hand combat with shaved hair and eyebrows.

He recalled, “First of all, I gained weight and learned traditional Filipino martial arts to change my appearance. After training for several months, I filmed my first scene fighting Timote.”

Regarding Butler’s transformation, Timothe said, “When you look at the ‘Dune 2’ poster, you recognize me and Zendaya, but you can’t see Butler and Skarsgård in their original form. That’s how much Butler brought Lotta to life.” praised.
