Following the success of ‘Wonka’, we return to Korea with ‘Dune 2’… Imitate the pronunciation of ‘Dune Chinja’ and say “thank you”

Zendaya “Korean fans welcome me more than my mother”… Director Denis Villeneuve says, “Korea is a country of cinephiles.”

(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Oh Bo-ram = “I think the audience will be very confused when they see me. They’ll be like, ‘What is the kid who sold chocolate doing in space all of a sudden?’ Haha.”

Timothée Chalamet, who visited Korea to celebrate the release of the movie ‘Dune: Part 2’ (hereinafter referred to as ‘Dune 2’), expressed his feelings about the release of ‘Dune 2’ after the box office success of ‘Wonka’ at a press conference held at the Conrad Seoul Hotel in Yeongdeungpo-gu on the 21st. When asked, he answered: Director Denis Villeneuve, as well as actors Zendaya, Austin Butler, and Stellan Skarsgård also attended the meeting.

Chalamet, who appeared in ‘Call Me by Your Name’ (2018) and ‘Little Women’ (2020), is one of the most popular young actors in Hollywood recently and has many fans in Korea as well.

‘Wonka’, a film in which Timote plays a chocolate-making wizard, is also a box office hit, attracting 2.58 million viewers since its release last month. On the 19th, when he entered the country, Incheon International Airport was crowded with fans, and Chalamet did not spare her fan service by giving them her autograph and taking pictures with them. The day before, photos of him touring downtown Seoul were posted one after another on social networking services (SNS).

Chalamet expressed his gratitude to his fans, saying, “Korea is a place that welcomes me warmer than any other place in the world.”

Zendaya also laughed, saying, “As soon as I arrived at the airport, many fans gave me letters, pictures, and Korean snacks. Even my mom doesn’t welcome me like that.”

The two wore clothes from a Korean designer that they purchased the day before at a brand shop in Gangnam-gu.

The actors and director Villeneuve also expressed respect for Korean audiences who love movies.

Chalamet said, “Korea is a country with passion and love for movies,” and added, “I am very happy to be able to experience Korea’s film history firsthand as an American actor. I hope ‘Dune 2’ is received positively in places like this.” .

Director Villeneuve also said, “Every time I come here, I feel how much Koreans love movies. Korea is a country of true cinephiles.”

In December of last year, he held a press conference in Korea to reveal some scenes from ‘Dune 2’ and also gave a presentation.

The first ‘Dune’, released in 2021 when COVID-19 was in full swing, only attracted about 1.64 million people, but a strong fandom was formed to the point where a new term was coined, ‘Dune fanatic’ (a person who is crazy about ‘Dune’).

After hearing about ‘Dune chinja’ from the host, Chalamet asked the interpreter to teach him the pronunciation again and clearly said in Korean, “Dune chinja, thank you.”

‘Dune 2’ is a science fiction genre film that covers the back story of the first film, and is based on Frank Herbert’s novel of the same name. It tells the story of Paul (Chalamet), who awakens after realizing his own abilities and destiny, and sets out on a journey for revenge. The highlight of the film is seeing the transformation of Paul, a boy, into a warrior and leader, and further into a messiah or fanatic.

Director Villeneuve explained, “I tried to reflect the original as faithfully as possible. I thought (original author) Herbert’s intention was to send a warning message to charismatic leaders.”

Timote said, “It seems like Herbert thought that Paul should be avoided being seen as a hero,” adding, “He seems to be ethically superior to Fade Lothar, but Paul is actually a person with a dark and violent side.”

Lothar (Austin Butler), a new villain who appears in ‘Dune 2’, is the opposite of Paul, but in some ways has some similarities on the inside.

As a bloodless and tearless sociopath who kills people for fun, Butler’s unconventional transformation stands out.

Butler demonstrates sword fighting and hand-to-hand combat with shaved hair and eyebrows.

He recalled, “First of all, I gained weight and learned traditional Filipino martial arts to change my appearance. After training for several months, I filmed my first scene fighting Timote.”

Regarding Butler’s transformation, Timothe said, “When you look at the ‘Dune 2’ poster, you recognize me and Zendaya, but you can’t see Butler and Skarsgård in their original form. That’s how much Butler brought Lotta to life.” praised.

‘Dune 2′ actors and director Villeneuve will film movie-related content with EBS’ popular character ‘Pengsu’ on this day, and will also appear on the tvN entertainment program ‘You Quiz on the Block’ hosted by Yoo Jae-seok.

They plan to conclude their visit to Korea by attending a red carpet event and stage greetings held at Times Square in Yeongdeungpo-gu on the 22nd.
