(Chuncheon = Larose.VIP) Reporters Lee Jae-hyeon and Kang Tae-hyun = On the 21st, the second day of residents leaving their workplaces in opposition to the government’s policy of increasing the number of medical schools, hundreds of residents are continuing their collective action as they did the previous day in the Gangwon region.

The number of patients complaining of anxiety is increasing as the medical vacuum situation due to the departure of medical residents appears to be spreading not only to general hospitals but also to general hospitals.

In fact, it is understood that a hospital in Wonju recently received a pledge from hospitalized patients and their guardians saying, “Due to a medical strike, access to higher-level hospitals may not be possible in the event of an emergency, so we will not be held responsible for changes in the patient’s condition, such as death or worsening health.” done.

According to the province on this day, 81% of the total 385 residents in the province, including those dispatched to four university hospitals and medical centers, submitted letters of resignation.

At Kangwon National University Hospital, out of 101 residents, 79 submitted resignation letters as of today, and 74 of them were found not to have come to work.

An official at Kangwon National University said, “There has been no major change in treatment and surgery so far.”

At Kangwon National University Hospital, 78 out of 101 residents submitted resignation letters as of today, and 64 of them were found to have not come to work.

At Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital, a total of 49 out of 50 residents submitted resignation letters, including 11 interns and 38 residents.

In the case of Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital, it is reported that only 4 out of 49 people who submitted resignation letters are currently working.

The hospital explained that among the 25 to 30 surgeries performed per day on average, there have been no postponed surgeries to date.

Of the 33 residents at Gangneung Asan Hospital, the only general hospital in the Yeongdong region, 23 also submitted letters of resignation and some left their jobs.

Asan Medical Center is operating an average of 55 surgeries per day, which has been reduced by 16%. However, serious and emergency surgeries are proceeding normally.

The number of residents leaving Wonju Severance Christian Hospital, where 97 out of 151 residents (42 interns and 109 residents) submitted resignations as of the previous day, is also increasing.

Following the doctors’ strike, there is also a movement to take a leave of absence at universities in the province.

The Emergency Response Committee of Kangwon National University College of Medicine’s Graduate School of Medicine announced the submission of a leave of absence report through a statement the day before.

The students said, “We will join together with students from the top 40 medical schools and medical schools across the country to speak with one voice,” and “We will no longer watch medical education being destroyed.”

The school said, “We are in the process of applying for a leave of absence, including meeting with the advisor and obtaining parental consent,” and added, “It is difficult to disclose the exact number of students.”

514 students from Yonsei University and Wonju University also said in a joint statement, “We will pause our path as medical students and join forces to take a leave of absence.”

Previously, Gangwon-do has operated an emergency response situation room since the 8th, and 14 public medical institutions including medical centers (5 medical centers, 3 Korea Workers’ Compensation & Welfare Service hospitals, 3 military hospitals, Jeongseon County Hospital, etc.) and city and county public health centers and branches are responding to emergency situations. We established treatment measures and established a system for extended weekday treatment and holiday treatment in preparation for mass closures of private clinics.

According to the province, emergency rooms at 26 emergency medical institutions are currently operating 24 hours a day. The three military hospitals in the province (Gangneung, Chuncheon, and Hongcheon) also open and operate emergency rooms to civilians.

However, emergency medical institutions in the province are also experiencing a manpower shortage due to the resignation of medical residents, so the province is asking patients with mild symptoms or non-emergency cases to use local emergency medical institutions or general medical institutions.
