SK C&C obtains approval for cerebral infarction diagnosis AI solution

(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Hong Guk-ki = SK Corporation C&C announced that ‘Medical Insight+ Brain Infarct’, an artificial intelligence (AI) solution for diagnosing cerebral infarction, has received approval as a class 3 medical device from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. It was announced on the 22nd.

SK Corporation C&C explained that it used its own deep learning algorithm to learn the image data of thousands of cerebral infarction patients from Solution.

To increase AI diagnosis accuracy, it also went through a verification process by neuro-head and neck imaging specialists at Seoul National University and Ajou University Hospital.

Solution analyzes non-contrast brain CT (computed tomography) images within seconds to detect abnormalities.

To help medical staff make a timely decision, the probability of cerebral infarction is presented as a number from 0 to 100%, and divided into 7 levels according to severity.

Abnormal areas are marked with a heat map or outline to help medical staff check even minute areas that are easy to miss.

When used in conjunction with ‘Medical Insight+ Brain Hemorrhage’, a cerebral hemorrhage diagnosis AI previously approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, cerebral hemorrhage and cerebral infarction can be read simultaneously in non-contrast CT images, significantly shortening the stroke diagnosis time. SK C&C emphasized.

SK C&C’s cerebral hemorrhage diagnosis AI solution previously received approval as a class 3 medical device item from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in 2021.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety classifies medical devices into four classes depending on the purpose of use and the degree of potential harm to the human body. Class 3 medical devices are ‘medical devices with severe potential risk’ and undergo review such as clinical trials.
