Ambulance transporting emergency patients

(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Kim Eun-kyung = Considering the recent chaos in the medical field, the number of emergency patient transfers has decreased slightly following the government’s request to refrain from calling 119 in non-emergency situations.

The National Fire Agency announced on the 23rd that the number of emergency patients transported by 119 emergency services from the 16th to the 22nd of this month was 4,736 on average per day, a decrease of about 1.5% compared to 4,810 during the same period last year.

The number of emergency patient transfers counted by the National Fire Agency refers to cases where patients are transferred via 119 emergency services, and does not include cases where private ambulances are used or patients visit the hospital directly.

An official from the National Fire Agency analyzed, “Considering that hospital treatment is difficult, the public appears to be refraining from visiting the hospital as it is not an emergency case.”

In addition, during the same period, emergency situation management at provincial and provincial 119 emergency management centers also decreased by 0.5% compared to the same period last year.

Physician medical guidance for paramedics decreased by 9.8%, and public first aid guidance decreased by 16.3%.

However, public disease consultation and hospital/clinic guidance increased by 13.8%, and hospital selection (including all) increased by 55.6%.

The 119 Emergency Management Center determines the severity when reporting an emergency patient and selects a hospital so that severe and emergency patients can be transferred to a regional emergency medical center or large hospital, and mild and non-emergency patients can be transferred to a local emergency medical institution or nearby hospital. Do.

The National Fire Agency has recently strengthened its call reception desk and counseling staff in preparation for the influx of 119 calls for hospital guidance, etc.

An official from the National Fire Agency said, “The decrease in the number of emergency transport people may have had an effect on the decrease in the number of doctors’ medical guidance,” and “As concerns spread that it may be difficult to visit the hospital that one usually goes to or is close to, it is analyzed that the number of consultations and guidance has increased.” explained.

In addition, he said, “The measures to strengthen the role of the emergency situation management center so that paramedics can focus on treating emergency patients rather than selecting a hospital are playing their role this time,” and added, “We will make full preparations in case the situation prolongs.”
