FromSoftware’s acclaimed fantasy RPG Elden Ring has sold more than 23 million copies since its 2022 launch, Bandai Namco has confirmed. The publisher released a gameplay trailer for the game’s first major expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, on Wednesday, as well as sales figures following its release date reveal. Exactly one year ago, Bandai Namco announced that Elden Ring had sold 20 million copies worldwide.

According to Bandai Namco, Elden Ring’s total sales consist of the physical version and downloadable digital releases across all platforms, including Steam for PC. The RPG is developer FromSoftware’s best-selling title, beating out Dark Souls 3 (released in 2016), which sold more than 10 million units (the studio confirmed in 2020). In fact, Elden Ring is inching closer to total sales for the Dark Souls series, which has shipped over 27 million copies.

This year’s 23 million unit sales are likely to increase due to the release of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, the base game’s first major story expansion. Bandai Namco released the first gameplay trailer for the DLC and confirmed a June 21 release date on Wednesday. The three-minute trailer showed off the new setting, new enemies and bosses, and gave fans plenty of hints about what to choose from.

Shadow of the Erdtree requires the base game to play, and is also available in a bundle that packages Elden Ring and future expansions into a single product. Meanwhile, Elden Ring remains popular on Steam, with a concurrent player count of around 50,000 at the time of this writing.

In February 2023, Bandai Namco confirmed that Elden Ring had sold 20 million copies worldwide just one year after its release. “We sincerely thank everyone who has played this game, and we will continue to develop more ways for fans to enjoy the world of ELDEN RING,” the publisher said in a statement. Elden Ring was released on February 25, 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X, and won Game of the Year Title at The Game Awards 2022.
