Meeting of city and provincial vice-presidents regarding collective action of doctors

(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Lee Shin-young = A consumer group called for an immediate halt to the government’s push to increase the number of medical schools, with residents taking collective actions such as submitting resignation letters.

The Korea Consumer Organization Council issued a statement on the 23rd and ordered, saying, “The expansion of doctor manpower is a matter of establishing a national medical system that is directly related to consumer safety, and is not a subject of negotiation as it is a policy for the lives and safety of the people.”

The council said, “Remembering the actions of the medical community that thwarted the policy of increasing the number of doctors in 2020 through collective action, we express serious concern about the current situation.”

At the same time, he said, “I hope that the policy will not be seen to retreat according to the logic of collective egoism,” and asked, “The government should only look at the people and pursue the issue of increasing the number of medical schools.”

The council emphasized, “We must expand the number of doctors to prevent the collapse of local and essential medical care,” and added, “The starting point for true discussions will be when we abandon extreme egoism and return to the medical field where patients are.”

We asked the government to “make more concrete plans to expand the number of doctors and expand essential medical services in the region, and persuade them through constant communication with the medical community.”
