Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 has been rumored and leaked as of late. While some of these are conflicting, others seem more believable given the brand’s somewhat relaxed stance on foldables despite a lot of new competition in the same space. This year, the Korean brand’s Galaxy S series saw a notable shift from expanding specs to focusing more on generative AI features, and the same is expected to happen with the foldable series this year. However, unlike regular slate-type smartphones, design is important for foldables. And the latest rumor attempts to point out what exactly has changed between the Z Fold 5 and the yet-to-be-announced Galaxy Z Fold 6.

The latest rumor comes from two sources, but they seem to point to the same change. The first set of newly leaked information comes from X (formerly Twitter) by Chun Bhai (@chunvn8888). He pointed out that like the Galaxy Z Fold 5, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will also have no silo for the S-Pen. Like the Galaxy Z Fold 5, the new S Pen can be expected to be sold in an optional case. There have been several reports that Samsung has attempted to create a thinner S-Pen that could fit into the Galaxy Z Fold’s rather thin frame (when unfolded), but that doesn’t appear to be happening in 2024. But Samsung’s latest patent also reveals other ideas, such as fixing the S-Pen to the side (or back) of the foldable or making it a detachable part of the foldable’s outer frame. So it’s hard to ignore that the S-Pen might not be mounted on the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s frame in any way.

Chun Bhai also says that the overall size of the phone may remain the same as before. The phone could be slightly wider and lighter thanks to the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s sharper styling and use of titanium. In terms of core hardware, sources reveal that the Galaxy Fold 6 will feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, a 4,600mAh battery, and a triple rear camera setup.

The second part comes from a poster named yeux1122 on Naver. The findings of this study are broadly similar to those above, but in more detail. In the post, the informant explained that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will also feature an improved UTG main display, a thinner and stronger hinge, and an improved under-display camera. The post states that the design of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be similar to the latest Galaxy S24 series.

The source also added that the proportions of the cover display are expected to change and may closely resemble what Chinese competitors (OnePlus Open, Vivo X Fold 2, etc.) are currently offering. This change is quite different from the more drastic design changes mentioned in previous reports, which almost seemed like a broader redesign with a Pixel Fold-like appearance.

The source also mentions that the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s camera will remain similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and that improvements will mainly come from the new ISP. This is very different from recent rumors that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 could have the same camera setup as the flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra.
