Continued medical gap, increasing burden on remaining medical staff

Continued medical gap, increasing burden on remaining medical staff

(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Kwon Ji-hyun = The Emergency Response Committee (Emergency Response Committee), formed by professors from Seoul National University College of Medicine and Seoul National University Hospital, said, “This weekend is the golden time for the (medical crisis) situation,” and urged the government to “take measures that are acceptable to residents.” “If not, we will take action together with them,” he said.

The Seoul National University Medical School Emergency Committee stated this in a statement issued on the 23rd, saying, “If we cannot take a single step during the weekend, a catastrophe will occur that no one can resolve.”

The emergency committee emphasized, “If the hospital’s treatment, which was operating on a limited basis, continues like this, it will not last even 10 days,” and added, “We will do everything we can to prevent a catastrophe.”

At the same time, he announced his plan, saying, “We will expand and reorganize the active emergency committee on a nationwide basis and move together with the emergency committees of higher-level general hospitals being formed across the country.”

The emergency committee added, “What we want is for the government to engage in dialogue with an open mind and work together to create and realize the optimal plan for public health and medical care through high-level discussions.”

The emergency committee told the government, “A government official told the press corps, ‘We will contact (the emergency committee) first and meet with them,’ but we only received an extremely complacent response, saying, ‘Dialogue is possible, but we are not negotiating partners.'” He said, “The government is talking to the emergency committee.” “I hope you make it clear whether you are willing to do it,” he said.

Regarding this, Park Min-soo, 2nd Vice Minister of Health and Welfare, said at a briefing at the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on this day, “I have contacted the emergency committee chairman once, and I will quickly set up a face-to-face meeting.” He added, “Before asking ‘who did a good job or a bad job?’ “I hope you will ask your students to return as soon as possible,” he said.

He also said, “People are dying before we can determine who was at fault. I think it’s our job to save people first.”

Regarding the point that the weekend is a critical moment, Vice Minister Park pointed out, “This situation should not be repeated as the risk continues to increase over time.”
