Jeollanam-do Mayors’ Council Regular Meeting

(Wando = Larose.VIP) Reporter Jo Geun-yeong = The 8th popularly elected ’10th Jeonnam Mayors and Counties Council Regular Meeting’ was held at the Marine Healing Center in Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do on the 23rd, with about 150 people in attendance, including heads of 22 local governments and related public officials in the province.

The regular meeting included a greeting from Shinan County Governor Park Woo-ryang, chairman of the council, and a welcome speech from Wando County Governor Shin Woo-cheol, followed by the presentation of souvenirs, the screening of a promotional video for marine healing, and the presentation of cases of special policies.

We discussed 13 cases, including support for raising the provincial subsidy rate for auxiliary projects in the social welfare field, revision of related regulations to respond to odor complaints, and revision of enforcement ordinance to revitalize the hometown love donation system.

The council decided to recommend the proposed agenda to Jeonnam Province and central ministries.

On this day, Wando-gun attracted attention by announcing the ‘ocean healing industry’ as a special policy example.

Since 2015, the marine healing industry has been promoted as a future growth engine industry, and the Marine Healing Center, where regular meetings were held, was built for the first time in Korea and opened in November last year, leading the marine healing industry.

In just three months since its opening, more than 15,000 people have visited, establishing itself as the birthplace of the marine healing industry.

If the marine healing industry is successfully promoted, it is expected to become a driving force in overcoming the crisis of regional extinction due to population decline by creating quality jobs and income.

In his welcoming speech, Wando County Mayor Shin Woo-cheol said, “There are many problems that threaten the existence of local governments, such as low birth rate and aging population, but there are opportunities amidst the crisis, and Jeonnam has ample development potential in each region, so let’s solidify the cooperation system and achieve a better Jeollanam-do to live in.” He said.
