(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Kim Jun-tae = On the way to the Armed Forces Capital Hospital in Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do, there is a gate that looks tight, but anyone can enter and exit freely.

Seongnam’s ‘Nuri 2’ city bus sometimes passes through the entrance to the capital hospital and enters the main gate of the main building without any stoppage or search.

This is the result of eliminating the unit entry procedure starting in September 2019.

The Armed Forces Medical Command announced on the 25th that it is pursuing a plan to open all military hospitals under its command to civilians without applying complicated access procedures like the capital hospital.

According to the medical officer, because military hospitals are military facilities, one must go through a series of procedures, including verifying ID and filling out a security pledge, to enter. However, many pointed out that the entry and exit procedures should be eliminated in order for civilian patients to find it comfortably and receive treatment quickly.

Accordingly, the Ministry of National Defense established the ‘2023-2027 Military Health and Medical Development Plan’ last year and decided to open the doors of all military hospitals under the Medical Corps by 2029.

After establishing measures such as controlling outsiders by entering offices that handle military secrets by swiping a card key or fingerprint, and securing sufficient CC (closed-circuit) TVs and security guards, entry procedures for civilians are eliminated.

Under the Medical Corps, the Armed Forces Gangneung Hospital, Armed Forces Chuncheon Hospital, Armed Forces Hongcheon Hospital, Armed Forces Goyang Hospital, Armed Forces Yangju Hospital, Armed Forces Pocheon Hospital, Armed Forces Seoul District Hospital, Armed Forces Capital Hospital, Armed Forces Daejeon Hospital, Armed Forces Daegu Hospital, Armed Forces Hampyeong Hospital, Armed Forces Hospital There are 12 military hospitals, including Guri Hospital.

Among these, following the Capital Hospital, the Armed Forces Daejeon Hospital opened its English doors in December of last year, and the Armed Forces Guri Hospital opened its English doors last month.

An official from the Medical Command said, “We are liberalizing access procedures to ensure prompt treatment conditions for emergency patients,” and added, “We will make efforts to protect the lives and health of not only military personnel but also the public.”

Meanwhile, the Ministry of National Defense has temporarily simplified the access procedures for 10 military hospitals since the 20th, when the medical vacancy in private hospitals began in earnest due to the mass resignation of medical residents.

Although the entry and exit procedures within the compound were not completely eliminated, entry was made by simply verifying ID without getting off the ambulance, and additional guides were placed to ensure no inconvenience in use.

The target hospitals are the Gangneung, Chuncheon, Hongcheon, Goyang, Yangju, Pocheon, and Seoul District Hospitals under the Medical Command, the Naval Marine Medical Center and Naval Pohang Hospital under the Navy, and the Air Force Aerospace Medical Center under the Air Force.
