OTT series grand prize, second ever after ‘Squid Game’ in 2022
The movie ‘Breakfast’ wins 4 awards… Hwang Jung-min and Namgoong Min receive first Baeksang award honors
Movie ‘Spring in Seoul’ and Disney+ original series ‘Moving’

At the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards held at Paradise City, Incheon on the afternoon of the 7th, director Kim won the grand prize in the film category and ‘Moving’ won the grand prize in the TV category.
The movie ‘Seoul Spring’, based on the 12/12 military uprising, was loved by audiences last year by mobilizing 13 million viewers, and won not only the grand prize but also the best picture award in the movie category and the best male actor award (Hwang Jung-min). Won the crown.
In his acceptance speech, Director Kim expressed his gratitude to the audience, saying, “I was very worried because the theater was empty when it was released last year, but fortunately, many audiences came.” He added, “All of us who make Korean movies, including myself, will work harder and make it more fun and work hard to make it well.”
The fantasy drama ‘Moving’, based on the popular webtoon of the same name, became the second OTT original series to receive the grand prize after Netflix’s ‘Squid Game’ (2022). In addition, he took home the Best Script Award (Writer Kang Full) and the Best New Actor Award (Lee Jeong-ha).
Director Park In-cheol of ‘Moving’ gave credit, saying, “The 20 credits included the names of all actors and staff who participated from parts 1 to 20,” and added, “I would like to thank everyone whose names were listed in the credits.”
Actor Namgoong Min in the drama ‘Lovers’
Actors Hwang Jung-min and Namgoong Min, who had appeared in several works but had no connection to the Baeksang Arts Awards, won the Best Male Actor award in the film and TV categories, respectively.
Namgoong Min said, “I came to the Baeksang Arts Awards a few times, but I just sat there and then left. Today, I feel so good because I can even talk about my acceptance speech.” During her acceptance speech, Hwang Jung-min told her wife that she loved her, and she cried as if she was so overcome with emotion that she received applause of encouragement.
Broadcaster Shin Dong-yup, who served as MC, said, “Hwang Jung-min has done many works, but he had no connection with the Baeksang Arts Awards, so he was nicknamed ‘Baeksang DiCaprio.’ Congratulations on winning this award.” Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio has not received an Oscar for a long time despite his outstanding acting skills in the past.
Actress Lee Ha-nui took home the Best Actress Award in the TV category for her role in the drama ‘Flowers that Bloom at Night.’ Lee Ha-nui received applause when she said, “Six months after giving birth, I was in a situation where I had to fly across roofs on wires and swing knives, which was crazy to anyone, but I fell in love with the script and couldn’t stop my heart.” .
The most awarded film was ‘Pamyo’, the first film this year to attract 10 million viewers. ‘Family’ won four awards, including Best Film Director (Director Jang Jae-hyeon), Best Female Actor (Kim Go-eun), Best New Male Actor (Lee Do-hyun), and Artistic Arts Award (Sound Director Kim Byeong-in).
In the TV category, ‘Lovers’ won Best Drama Picture and Best Male Actor (Nam Goong Min), while the Netflix original series ‘Mask Girl’ attracted attention as Ahn Jae-hong and Yeom Hye-ran received both male and female supporting actor awards.
Lee Do-hyun saluting
Lee Do-hyun, who is currently serving in the Air Force, received the Rookie Actor Award on this day in recognition of his acting skills in ‘Buried Tomb.’ Lee Do-hyun, who attended the awards ceremony in military uniform, first saluted the audience and then expressed his gratitude to the people around him and his girlfriend, actress Lim Ji-yeon, in a trembling voice.
The youngest winner on the day was Yuna, who won the Best New Actor Award in the TV category for playing the genius girl Choi Ro-hee in the ENA drama ‘Kidnapping Day.’ Yuna, 13, shed tears as she said, “I’m so happy and honored just to be listed (as a candidate) alongside these wonderful seniors, but I’m so thankful they even gave me the award.”
Producer Na Young-seok, who directed numerous popular entertainment programs, attracted attention by being selected as the male winner of the entertainment award given to entertainment performers. The Baeksang Arts Awards secretariat explained the reason for the award, saying, “(Producer Na) is receiving a lot of love for his outstanding performance as a content host that stimulates young emotions beyond an entertainment director.”
PD Na looked surprised, saying, “It was strange just to be nominated, but I came (to the awards ceremony) because it was fun, but I didn’t even think about how I felt when they even gave me an award.”
‘I served as host of the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards’
The Baeksang Arts Awards were first held in 1965 and celebrate their 60th anniversary this year. The day was hosted by broadcaster Shin Dong-yup and actors Park Bo-gum and Suzy.
The awards ceremony, which lasted for about four hours starting at 5 p.m., also included a congratulatory performance. Group UV went on stage and sang a rewritten version of the popular song ‘Itaewon Freedom’ to celebrate the opening of the Baeksang Arts Awards.
In the second half of the awards ceremony, an actor audition scene was staged on stage, and veteran actor Lee Soon-jae made a surprise appearance as an audition applicant.
Lee Soon-jae said, “As an actor, it’s always a challenge to take on a new role. You can do it well, but it’s not perfect. I always think and work hard toward perfection.” He then performed a scene from the play ‘King Lear’ and received a standing ovation from the actors in the audience.
