Mini album ‘Dream Escape’ released… “Consolation even to those without dreams”

Group NCT DREAM introduced the title song ‘Smoothie’ as follows at a press conference commemorating the release of the mini album ‘DREAM( )SCAPE’ held in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul on the 25th.
Member Mark said, “When I hear smoothie, I usually imagine a refreshing and sweet image, but our smoothie is black,” adding, “I tried to embody the ambition of grinding up and digesting bad thoughts.”
‘Dream Escape’ is a new album released by NCT Dream for the first time in 8 months. Like the team name, ‘Dream’ is the theme, but it is somewhat different from the message that has been delivered so far in that it contains the pain and difficulties of dreams.
Mark said, “We have always been a team that gives dreams and hope, but this time, we wanted to deliver a message of comfort to ‘friends without dreams.’” Member Renjun also explained the background, saying, “I came up with this concept the moment I thought, ‘I might not have dreams and hopes.’”
Regarding the ‘( )’ in the album title, Jeno said, “The parentheses have the meaning of ‘escape’, and in a way, they can be seen as a door to escape.” It runs through the entire album’s theme of escaping from a dark and difficult reality and finding a dream.
“We always showed a bright side, but we also have pain, we know how to feel pain, and there were times when we had no dreams. The idea was to make an album that young people can relate to.” (mark)
Renjun ‘Am I pretty?’
The title song ‘Smoothie’, derived from this theme, is an 808-based hip-hop dance song that features whispering vocals in the chorus and relaxed choreography.
Regarding the reason for choosing this song as the title song, Haechan said, “It is the song that best expresses us,” and “I thought we could confidently embody it when we put on a performance.”
Renjun expressed confidence, saying, “The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd verses are all different, and they don’t feel boring.”
In addition to the title song, the new album includes songs such as ‘icantfeelanything’, ‘BOX’, ‘Carat Cake’, ‘UNKNOWN’, and ‘Breathing’.
Regarding ‘Carat Cake’, Jaemin said, “I put a variety of ad-libs around the third verse and chorus, so it will be fun to find them.”
The members also actively participated in rap making during the production of this album.
Mark explained, “I had fun working with Jeno because I wanted to create an exchange rap in ‘Unknown,’” and Jaemin said of the rap verse in ‘Breath,’ “I wrote the rap while thinking of Czennie (NCT Dream’s fandom name).” introduced.
“I think we have an unusual amount of passion and ambition for our age. I think our ambition has been upgraded to another level with this album.” (mark)

NCT Dream will hold its third world tour, ‘The Dream Show 3’, starting in Seoul in May and touring North and South America, Europe, and Asia.
Mark raised expectations by saying, “I believe that a concert’s story is the lifeblood of a concert. As this album has a clear story, I want to let you know that it can continue at concerts as well.”
