CMF by Nothing, a sub-brand of the British startup led by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, is reportedly preparing to launch its first smartphone. A device with a previously unseen model number has appeared on two regulatory websites, suggesting it could be launching soon. So far, CMF by Nothing has launched wireless audio products, chargers, and wearable fitness trackers. The purported smartphone could be launched in an affordable price range similar to the recently launched Nothing Phone 2a.
Earlier this week, Android Headlines discovered a new device with model number A015 on an unspecified regulatory website. The publication speculated that the device would be known as the Nothing Phone 3 and would be released in the coming months. According to previous reports, the Phone 3 will feature a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip instead of a flagship-level mobile processor.

Meanwhile, 91Mobiles found a listing of a device with the same A015 model number on the BIS India website, which suggests that the device may launch in India as well. However, a BIS listing seen by Gadgets 360 indicates that the brand name of the device is Nothing’s sub-brand CMF.
Another clue that the upcoming smartphone might not be the successor to the Nothing Phone 2 is the model number itself. The first generation Nothing Phone and Nothing Phone 2 (successor) were assigned model numbers A063 and A065, respectively. On the other hand, the model name of Nothing Phone 2a, which was released at a cheaper price range, is A142.
We can assume that the affordable smartphone from the Nothing sub-brand could compete with phones priced under Rs. 20,000 mark in India. Currently Nothing’s cheapest phone, the Phone 2a, starts at Rs. 23,999 in India, while the Nothing Phone 2 was launched last year for Rs. 44,999 price tag. We expect to hear more about the smartphone as it is known from CMF by Nothing in the coming months.
