Nothing Phone 1 is launched with Nothing OS based on Android 12 and is the first smartphone model from the UK-based company. The phone has gone through several software upgrades since its reveal in July 2022. Phone 1 users are now receiving the Android 14-based Nothing OS 2.5.5 update, which was also recently rolled out to Nothing Phone 2 users globally. Along with several new features, bug fixes, and performance improvements, Nothing OS 2.5.5 update for Nothing Phone 1 also brings ChatGPT integration.
The stable version of Nothing OS 2.5.5 will be rolled out gradually to Nothing Phone 1 users, the company announced in a community post. Users can manually check for updates on their phones by going to: setting > system > system update > Download > install. If you don’t see the update yet, it will be there in the next few days.
With the Nothing OS 2.5.5 update, Nothing Phone 1 users will get a new gesture option to initiate voice conversations with ChatGPT in the Nothing X application. This works with the recently released Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear A true wireless earphones. For this feature to work, your phone will need the latest version of ChatGPT from the Play Store. The company assured that ChatGPT integration will soon be rolled out to other Nothing audio products.
Nothing Phone 1 users will also receive a new ChatGPT widget that provides quick and easy access to ChatGPT from the home screen. The update also adds buttons to screenshots and clipboard pop-ups that allow users to paste content directly into new ChatGPT conversations.
The Nothing OS 2.5.5 update for Phone 1 adds the option to apply the Nothing icon pack to the home screen only. This is claimed to improve App Drawer accessibility. The update also allows users to scroll through pages on the home screen while holding down the app icon for reconfiguration on the handset.
The Nothing OS 2.5.5 update for Phone 1 also adds a customization option to enable or disable the quick settings swipe-down page on the user’s lock screen. This allows users to customize it. setting > lock screen and AOD > Quick setup. This update also gives you access to new customizable icon options within the status bar. setting > Denote > status bar. The company claims that the Nothing OS 2.5.5 update for Phone 1 updates uses AI-assisted algorithms for “smart lighting adjustments for automatic brightness.” It also features rearranged Quick Settings tiles for better accessibility. This update also introduces new animations in the Quick Settings widget, improves Bluetooth toggle responsiveness in Quick Settings, and optimizes the volume settings experience.
Additionally, the Nothing OS 2.5.5 update fixes issues related to automatic Wi-Fi disconnects, displaying and editing screenshot frames, and “lack of vibration feedback when swiping sideways to return to the screen.” The problem of the earbud volume not being synchronized with the phone volume and the problem of audio not switching to the connected watch during a call while paired with the earbuds are also said to have been resolved.
