Apple Vision Pro went on sale in February 2024. The mixed reality headset is still only available in the United States, but the company plans to bring it to international markets as well. But amid expanded development of the Cupertino-based tech giant’s latest product, there appears to be no successor in sight. Apple Vision Pro 2 isn’t in the company’s plans until late 2026, according to a new report. Notably, CEO Tim Cook recently confirmed that the mixed reality headset will launch in China in 2024.

Apple’s Vision Pro roadmap for the next two years does not include the launch of another headset, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported in the Power On newsletter. This corroborates what Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed in a Medium post last February. The analyst said the Vision Pro 2 won’t enter mass production before 2027. If reports are to be believed, it could take the tech giant up to three years. Before thinking about another product focused on Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR).

This doesn’t mean Apple doesn’t have a roadmap for Vision Pro. According to Gurman, the company currently has three clear priorities: The first is market expansion. Despite its launch, the mixed reality headset is currently only available in the US. China appears to be the first country on the list, as Cook has already confirmed its launch there. The headset could launch in 2025 in other regions. However, the tech giant appears to be keeping a conservative view on the devices it can sell, as it has reportedly reduced orders for the Apple Vision Pro in line with “market consensus.” 700,000 to 800,000, 400,000 to 450,000.

Another thing on the company’s agenda is updating the existing operating system for mixed reality headsets. According to reports, Apple will release the visionOS 2.0 update later this year. However, this update is not expected to bring any revolutionary changes to the way the device operates. It will still be interesting to see what new features the company adds. In particular, Vision Pro is rumored to gain new AI features via an operating system update.

The ultimate goal is to develop a cheaper version of the headset, Gurman said. The company is reportedly focusing on launching a cheaper version of the Vision Pro before planning a successor. But there’s a problem. Apple is reportedly struggling to lower prices and has no concrete plans to achieve this goal.
