Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max was the best-selling model in the first quarter of 2024, according to a report by a market research firm. The company’s flagship phones reportedly accounted for more than half of Apple’s sales value in the same quarter. Four of the top five smartphones were the latest iPhone models, and the top ten best-sellers were smartphones from Apple and Samsung. Seven of the ten models were high-end smartphones, and initially all phones on the list supported 5G.
Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max and standard iPhone 15 models ranked first and second, respectively, according to Counterpoint Research’s latest Global Monthly Handset Model Sales Tracker. In fact, all four models in Apple’s latest smartphone lineup are among the top 10 best-selling smartphones. iPhone 15 Pro ranked third, followed by iPhone 14. iPhone 15 Plus ranked 8th.
Like Apple, South Korean tech giant Samsung also had five smartphones in Counterpoint’s top 10 list of best-selling smartphones. In the first quarter of 2024, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra ranked 5th as the company’s best-selling phone. Next, Samsung Galaxy A15 5G and Galaxy A54 ranked 6th and 7th, respectively.
The standard Galaxy S24 model ranks 9th on Counterpoint’s list of the top 10 phones by sales in the first quarter of 2024. According to the market research firm, the phone lagged behind the one-tier iPhone 15 Plus. The Galaxy A34 is the 10th phone on the market research company’s list of best-selling smartphones.
According to Counterpoint, Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max offered better hardware compared to the company’s standard models, and that differentiation led more customers to choose the higher-end models. It includes new action buttons, the powerful A17 Pro chip, a telephoto camera, and a titanium body.
Similarly, Samsung’s Galaxy S24 smartphone series is equipped with new generative AI (GenAI) features such as Circle to Search, Browsing Assist, and real-time call translation. Counterpoint also said it expects premium features like GenAI to be featured on more smartphones as customers wait a long time to upgrade their phones due to limited hardware differentiation.
