World Congress of the International Federation of Copyright Management Societies

(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Choi Joo-seong = The world general meeting of the International Federation of Copyright Administrators (CISAC), known as the ‘United Nations of the copyright industry’, opened in Seoul on the 27th.

The Korea Music Copyright Association, the organization organizing the event, announced that the ‘2024 CISAC World Congress’ will be held in Yeouido, Seoul until June 1.

It is the first time in 20 years since 2004 that the CISAC World Congress has been held in Korea.

CISAC was founded in 1926 and has 225 copyright organizations from 116 countries around the world as members. It is the world’s largest copyright-related non-governmental organization with about 5 million creators in the field of culture and arts, including music, drama, and literature, as members.

At the Seoul General Assembly, about 300 presidents of copyright associations from around the world will gather to discuss major international copyright-related issues, and a seminar will be held to improve the copyright system.

At the opening session of the regular general meeting on the 30th, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon will deliver a congratulatory speech, and former SM Entertainment general producer Lee Soo-man will be a special K-pop keynote speaker.

Next, a panel discussion will be held under the theme of ‘Crossing the Border of Culture: K-Pop Case Study’ with actor and film director Yoo Ji-tae, National Assembly member Kim Jae-won (Ria), and former Spanish Minister of Culture Angeles González Shinde.

After the regular general meeting ends, a performance commemorating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Korea Music Copyright Association will be held for presidents of copyright organizations from each country and CISAC officials. Inalchi Band, singer Ali, and dance team 1Million will take the stage.

Choo Chu-yeol, president of the Korea Music Copyright Association, said, “I hope this general meeting will be a meaningful opportunity to think about what is needed to protect the legitimate rights and interests of creators not only in Korea but around the world, and to show creators a bright future.”
