According to feature tracker WABetaInfo, the instant messaging platform’s new layout for status updates will be released with the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.12.20. Some beta testers had access to this change in previous versions, but it’s been rolled out to a wider audience with the latest update.

Screenshots shared by WABetaInfo show that a new, larger thumbnail for status updates has been introduced, replacing the existing small circular window. It is assumed that users will be able to catch a glimpse of status updates without having to open this thumbnail. However, according to Feature Tracker, it’s still pinned to the top of the screen below the search bar. This means that the location has not changed.
The latest WhatsApp beta update for Android also brings a new layout for the WhatsApp channel recommendation panel. It has reportedly been adjusted with an update and now has a horizontal orientation.
