Manchester United are aiming to deliver a massive transfer blow to rivals Liverpool and Leeds United, with Erling Haaland could leave Manchester City next summer, with Tottenham’s double exit almost complete. It all came down to the Euro Paper Talk on Thursday.
Will Manchester United trouble their two rivals?
Manchester United have made the Liverpool midfielder a transfer target this summer and the shock signing will replace a player who Erik ten Hag admits is not of Premier League standard.
Ten Hag has made changes to his midfield this season, with Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Scott McTominay, Sofian Amrabat and Kobi Mainu all getting playing time.
Casemiro and Eriksen are both on the decline, while doubts remain about McTominay’s defensive ability in a deeper role.
Loanee Amrabat was expected to strengthen the engine compartment, but has had little impact so far.
United have the option to buy the Fiorentina man’s loan deal. The options are worth £21.4m, but the Sun revealed in December: United have privately admitted that Amrabat is not fit for Premier League football.
This option will therefore not be triggered and according to reports in Spain (cited by Caught Offside), United are preparing a replacement for the Moroccan.
Manchester United defeats Liverpool and Leeds in one blow

The 17-year-old has exploded onto the scene this season and his versatility – he can play at right-back or defensive midfield – led to early comparisons to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

It has been acknowledged that it could be difficult to convince a Leeds player to join bitter rivals Manchester United. The Gray family have long-standing links with the Whites and the player may ultimately opt out of joining the Red Devils.
Nonetheless, United are said to be at least willing to ask questions and, for the time being, Gray is seen as an ideal replacement for Amrabat.
The Gray-Mainu combination, despite their lack of experience, could form the foundation of United’s midfield for the next decade.
Double Tottenham End Almost Complete
Jed Spence has undergone a medical at Genoa ahead of his six-month loan to Italy. Tottenham will cover Spence’s entire salary during the loan period, which includes a €10m purchase option. (Fabrizio Romano)
