Manchester United have been approached to sign one of Europe’s most exciting prospects. The Chelsea star is set to remain on loan until his medical, with Liverpool, Tottenham and Newcastle stepping up their efforts to sign Serie A’s best winger. It’s all in Wednesday’s Euro Paper Talk.

Giorgio Scalvini leaves for Manchester United

One of Manchester United’s priorities this summer is signing the best young centre-back. This is not surprising considering the doubts over the futures of Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire.

Varane’s contract expires at the end of this season. Manchester United decided not to activate the 12-month option on the contract. He is a target for several Saudi clubs.

It is also thought that Lindelof, Evans and Maguire are not part of Erik Ten Hag’s long-term plans.

There are several names on the Red Devils’ radar, but Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini has always been at the top of the list.

By the age of 20, Scalvini had already established himself in Serie A, playing as a centre-back or defensive midfielder for Italian teams.

He has been one of Atalanta’s most important players, making 21 league appearances this season and helping the team to nine clean sheets in the process.

Scalvini’s performances attracted the attention of several top European clubs. As previously reported by TEAMtalk, Tottenham also likes this young man. There are also Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Juventus.

Atalanta will reportedly demand around 60 million euros (£51.3 million) for Scalvini. Now it looks like Manchester United are in the race to sign him.

Manchester United could sign Scalvini for a lower price than expected

According to Italian media outlet CalcioMercato, Manchester United And Borussia Dortmund ‘inquired’ about signing Scalvini.

It is claimed that Atalanta are actually demanding less for the defender than previously reported, with his price tag set at €40m (£34.1m).

Manchester United have ‘already made contact’ regarding Scalvini and have been told the ‘starting price’ they would need to take him out of Serie A.

It is yet to be seen whether they will take further steps to sign the talented youngster in the summer, but he would certainly be an exciting signing if they can get a deal done.

The club’s new minority shareholder, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, wants to make Old Trafford the best place to develop top young prospects.

Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo and Lille’s Leny Yoro are also on Man Utd’s radar as Ratcliffe aims to strengthen the team’s defence.
