The iPhone 16 lineup is widely expected to include additional buttons and camera tweaks. Apple has been known to include a capture button in its video capture lineup. Computer-aided design (CAD) sketches of the iPhone 16 recently surfaced online, highlighting design elements from the vanilla model. The renders reveal a vertical slim camera layout rather than the iPhone 16’s current diagonal camera layout. The action button and the rumored capture button were shown in what was believed to be a schematic.

Tipster Majin Bu (@MajinBuOfficial) posted a alleged CAD rendering of the iPhone 16 on X (formerly Twitter). The leaked renders hint at a slimmer camera device inspired by the iPhone X, featuring dual camera sensors in a vertical pill housing. The flash units appear to be arranged outside the bump. The vanilla iPhone 15 model has a diagonal camera array.

The action button appears to have replaced the iPhone 16’s mute switch. The action button, which first debuted on last year’s iPhone 15 Pro models, can be used to perform tasks such as turning on the flashlight, opening the camera, and pairing with shortcut apps.

The iPhone 16’s left spine features the rumored capture button placed below the power button. This button can be used to capture video. The buttons can be pressure sensitive and allow the user to adjust focus and zoom in and out. Apple is expected to add spatial video recording to the base model with a new camera layout. Currently, only the iPhone 15 Pro model can record spatial video.

The iPhone 16 series is likely to be launched in the second half of 2024. The upcoming lineup is expected to consist of five models: iPhone 16 SE, iPhone 16 Plus SE, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The vanilla iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to be powered by the A18 Bionic chip based on TSMC’s 3nm process.
