There hasn’t been any “industry first” initiatives announced recently. The company has unveiled plans for a ‘Community Edition Project’, inviting people from all over the world to send in their ideas for new variants of the recently unveiled Nothing Phone 2a. It is claimed to be a joint creation of the “Community” and Nothing teams. Founder and CEO Carl Pei did not confirm that this could be the first step towards a “community” participating in co-developing new products or even an OS in the future. Phone 2a was released on March 5 and users recently started receiving Nothing OS 2.5.4 update.

Nothing CEO Carl Pei announced the Nothing Phone 2a Community Edition project, where the UK-based OEM will take design, wallpaper and packaging ideas from the community (including users of Nothing products). The invitation is open to everyone. All interested individuals are encouraged to submit their ideas for new Phone 2a variants.

The company details that the Community Edition project will take place in four phases over six months. Hardware designs must be submitted in March, wallpaper designs in May, package designs in June, and marketing campaign ideas in July.Nothing Phone 2a Nothing Community Edition Timeline Phone2a

It is not confirmed that participants may present their ideas through any medium of their choice (“images, videos, and/or other supporting media that best illustrate their ideas”) and upload them using the Community Edition Project webpage. Once the submission period for each stage ends, voting on the selected ideas begins and is open to everyone. All valid submissions will ultimately be judged by an “internal Nothing panel that selects winners at each stage.”

Nothing Phone 2a is priced in India starting at Rs. 23,999 for the 8GB + 128GB model, while the 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 256GB configurations are priced at Rs. 25,999 and Rs. 27,999 each. The phone is available in black and white color options and is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro SoC along with a 5,000mAh battery with support for 45W wired fast charging. It is equipped with a 6.7-inch 120Hz full HD+ AMOLED display, dual 50-megapixel rear cameras, and a 32-megapixel selfie camera.
