Samsung recently announced plans to expand its wearables ecosystem this year and gave a big hint that it may introduce a new premium model of its smartwatch. The company reported its first quarter 2024 (January-March) results on Tuesday and also shared its plans for the next quarter and the remainder of the year. In the MX (Mobile eXperience) business, new models, including the Galaxy Watch and the Galaxy Ring, could be released this year. The South Korean tech giant also plans to integrate Galaxy AI with new and existing flagship devices.

In a newsroom post, Samsung revealed its quarterly sales figures, reporting significant quarterly growth thanks to strong sales of its flagship Galaxy S24 smartphone. The tech giant reported operating profit of 6.61 trillion won (approximately Rs. 37,000 crores) for the quarter. The increase in profits was also driven by increased profits in the MX business.

In addition to the sales figures, the company also mentioned its plans for next quarter and the rest of the year. In particular, Samsung Electronics emphasized its plans to expand the wearable ecosystem. One way to aim for this is to introduce new form factors like the Galaxy Ring. The device was recently showcased at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, but there is no word on its release date. However, this mention highlights that the Galaxy Ring could be released later this year. Previous reports claimed that mass production could begin in the third quarter of this year.

The second way Samsung is looking to expand its division is by launching new premium models of its smartwatches. This is interesting considering that the company currently has two smartwatches on the market: the Galaxy Watch 6 and the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. However, other models may also be introduced this year. According to a report by SamMobile, Samsung may launch a new square or rectangular smartwatch.

This wouldn’t be a new move either, as the company previously offered square smartwatches with its now-discontinued Galaxy Gear series. There are also rumors that the company may launch another smartwatch named ‘Pro’ or ‘Ultra’ and add more features available for the new rectangular dial.
