(Seoul = Larose.VIP) Reporter Choi Joo-seong = “(Park) I decided to pursue a career as a singer after watching Jae-beom’s performance, so it’s meaningful that I can work with Jae-beom. This is the moment I’ve been working as a singer so far. “I thought it was for a moment.”

For BM (32), a member of the mixed group KARD, singer Jay Park has always been a role model in his heart.

BM has been watching Jay Park as a fan from the moment he appeared on the audition program ‘K-Pop Star’ in 2011 to become a singer until now that he has established himself in the music industry.

He reached a turning point in his career as a singer with his first mini-album ‘Element’. Jay Park was featured in the title song ‘Nectar’ and was able to meet his idol as a collaborator.

In a recent interview at a cafe in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, BM said, “I’m so excited because something like a dream has happened,” and “After we decided to release an album, things are going well in many ways, so I’m going through a thankful time.”

‘Element’ is an album containing five songs that express the most basic curiosity about the relationship between men and women. ‘Nectar’ is an easy listening song about wanting to share sweet love with someone you feel attracted to.

BM said, “This is an album that is mostly about the passionate attraction felt between a man and a woman,” and added, “Rather than containing a big message, we worked on it with the goal of making music that is easy to listen to over time. There was also a trend of returning popular music genres in the past, so it was popular in the 1990s and 2000s.” “It also contains a lot of the hip-hop and R&B vibes of the 1990s,” he explained.

For BM, who recruited a Grammy Award-winning mixing engineer and a producer who worked with rapper Drake for ‘Nectar’, Jay Park was the final piece of the puzzle to complete the song. BM was able to achieve its desired goal after engaging in active courtship, including sending messages on social networking services (SNS).

BM said, “There was no answer to my message, but I thought I wouldn’t regret it if I asked one more time when we met in person. I was grateful for writing and composing the lyrics together and appearing in the music video. Together, we performed ‘Nectar Challenge.’ “I also filmed a video,” he said, looking back.

He then smiled and said, “As an older brother and senior, I felt acknowledged after hearing the various advice he gave me. I tried not to look too excited.”

BM, who served as the album’s general producer and participated in writing, composing, and arranging all songs, used this work as an opportunity to demonstrate all of his musical capabilities. He searched for videos on YouTube and participated in mixing and mastering himself.

BM explained, “I wanted to test the extent of my talent,” and “I thought the company would be happy to release the album because it would save production costs if I took full charge of song work.”

As it is their first mini-album, they may feel that they want to achieve success, but BM says that if the listener finds it fun, that is enough. A decisive moment came when I realized the importance of gratitude while watching a family member recover from a recent health problem.

“It was amazing that when I let go of my greed for money and fame, good things started to happen. I don’t want to be greedy because I think the direction I’m heading in is the right direction.”

However, he said that he still hopes to enjoy the same level of recognition domestically as overseas. BM made his name known to foreign fans as an ‘adult K-pop’ singer by going on a solo tour ‘After The After Party’ in the United States in May.

BM said, “I think the color that suits my younger colleagues and the color that suits me in my 30s are different,” and “With this album, I want to target fans who like hip-hop and R&B and make my name known in Korea as well.”

“I think the peak of my career is still far away. In particular, I believe that the combination of ‘elements’ surrounding me now is more perfect than ever, so I will work hard to reach the peak.”
