According to the report, the shipment target for iPad Pro (2024) is more than 9 million units. The Cupertino-based tech giant is said to be optimistic about its lofty goals despite reports predicting a market downturn. This figure far exceeds the estimates of market experts who expect Apple to ship approximately 4 to 5 million units. The high volume of shipments also highlights Apple’s faith in the most expensive iPad Pro model in the company’s history.

iPad Pro (2024) will account for two-thirds of all OLED tablets shipped in 2024

The latest iPad Pro models, launched at Apple’s Let Loose event earlier this month, feature Ultra Retina XDR screens, also known as Tandem OLED screens. This is the first time Apple has introduced OLED displays on both the 11-inch and 13-inch models. However, the manufacturing of these displays is reportedly challenging, leading to delays in timely delivery of the devices.

Despite the delays, Apple suppliers Samsung Display (SDC) and LG Display continue to work to meet their shipment targets, according to a DigiTimes Asia report. Apple is also sticking to its original target despite warnings of a market slowdown, with several experts predicting iPad Pro sales will reach 4 to 5 million units in 2024, the report cited anonymous sources as saying.

To accelerate the manufacturing process, SDC is reportedly increasing its production capacity by expanding its A3 line from one to two to manufacture OLED displays for the iPad Pro.

Since Apple’s tablets reportedly use hybrid two-stack OLED displays and the A3 line uses a single-stack OLED as its base design, it is said that suppliers may have to make some adjustments to their production processes.

On the other hand, LG Display is said to be ready to handle high volumes. It is known that SDC must produce more than 4 million two-stage tandem OLED screens, and LG Display must produce more than 5 million.

Meanwhile, market research firm Omdia said in a recent report that global shipments of tablets with OLED displays will exceed 12 million units, of which 8.9 million will be iPad Pros. This means iPad Pro models will account for two-thirds of all OLED tablet shipments this year, giving Apple a slice of the market space.
