Google is testing a new layout for its Search app for Android smartphones to make it much easier to use your phone with one hand. As smartphone screens grew, many app developers began moving user interface elements such as tabs, search boxes, and menu buttons to the bottom of the screen. As part of the new test, Google has reportedly moved the search bar to the bottom of the screen for some users of the app.

A new test that brings a search box to the bottom of the Android screen has been introduced in app version 14.48.26.29.arm64, discovered by TheSpAndroid. Companies can move the search bar, which is usually located at the top of the screen, to the bottom. A screenshot shared by the publication shows a much larger search bar positioned above the Home, Search, and Saved icons.

The new location of the Android search bar is expected to make the Google Search app much easier to use on Android phones. You can launch the search bar with your thumb and then tap or swipe on the keyboard without using your other hand. . This change may be useful for users with larger smartphone displays.

It’s worth noting that this test is only available to select users who have updated to the latest beta version of the app. The latest stable version of the app currently available is 14.47.36. After updating to the latest beta release through the Play Store, Gadgets 360 was unable to access the new layout. This means the redesign will only be available to select beta testers.

Google hasn’t made any announcements regarding accessibility improvements to its Android app’s search box, and it’s too early to say whether the change will roll out to all users, be made optional, or set as the default. The company allowed beta testers on iOS to move the search bar to the bottom in August, after previously undoing a design change that would have brought the search bar to the bottom on Android.
